Carrier Neutral colocation is a type of colocation which bases the colocation center around many internet service providers as opposed to just one or two. This means that the data may travel over any one of a number of internet service providers, ensuring that if any one of them is down or having trouble the data will still get through. This offers many advantages over using a single ISP.
The first advantage is obvious: if one ISP goes down, or is having problems, or is otherwise unable to provide service, servers may be switched to another, although of course new fees and contracts will need to be negotiated. Additionally, this means that if a company has an existing contract with an existing internet service provider, all they need to do is bring their existing servers into the facility. The carrier neutral colocation can then simply connect that server into the same network and continue service as-is, in the new location.
Carrier neutral colocation is very important for a company that has an existing relationship with an ISP they are very happy with. Carrier neutral colocation allows for them to continue their existing business contracts without having to negotiate new terms, while still permitting them to keep their own servers. They also gain the benefits of server colocation, which include increased stability and security.
Carrier neutral colocation is also excellent for a company that is not happy with its current ISP and wishes to change carriers. Because the colocation centre is carrier neutral, the customer is free to shop around among carriers and find the one with the best rate. They are not constricted in which service they choose, and they can lock in a good contract with the best server. This, along with the other advantages mentioned above, is why the best colocation centres are carrier neutral.
